Freedom School

Freedom School

Posted by Elyse in Updates 17 Aug 2011

Hey Everyone!

This summer has flown by. I can’t believe the school year is starting! This summer I volunteered at The Freedom School. This is a summer program offered to elementary school children from schools in the Charlotte area. These children came to the Shalom Park JCC for six weeks, Monday through Friday. They had harambee in the morning, similar to a pep rally where they sing songs and chants and do cheers, then they had reading and lunch. When they came back, there was an afternoon activity set for them. I, along with other teens, were apart of the Teen Board where we went to these classroom and bonded with the scholars and helped them with their curriculum. I loved it! I made relationships that will last forever and I am so excited that I was able to be apart of such a great thing. The kids who were at Freedom School call me, write me, and see me almost all the time. They make me smile and laugh and I can not wait to do it again next year.
